A letter from your horse ....

Untitled.jpg

Dear Rider,

Will you change - for me?

Not because you don’t care, I know you do. But sometimes your body speaks in mixed messages, and I’m left to guess.

When your hip is tight, it doesn’t stay in your hip. It changes how you sit, how your leg hangs, how your knee holds. Your weight lands unevenly, and your aids arrive in different strengths. I can feel “go” and “stop” at the same time.

So I do what I always do—I try to understand you.

And when I guess wrong, I get told off. A sharper hand, a stronger leg, the frustration I can feel before you even move. That’s the part that hurts most—being punished for misunderstanding when I was honestly trying. Please don’t mistake my confusion for disobedience.

I’m always trying to have a conversation with you. Sometimes we just aren’t speaking the same language.

I can feel your effort, your old injuries, the tension you’ve learned to live in, and the patterns you no longer notice. But I feel them in my balance, my freedom, and the way I move beneath you. They change the conversation between us.

I’m not asking you to be perfect, but I’m asking you to become clearer.

Will you soften the places you’ve learned to grip? Will you free your hip, your knee, your breath—so I no longer have to carry what you can’t yet feel? Because when you do, everything changes, your aids become quieter and kinder.

I stop guessing, I stop protecting myself & I finally feel like we’re having the same conversation.

So please… change for me.

Not because I need you to ask less of me, but because I need us to understand each other better, because when you understand your own body, you make it easier for me to understand you.

The new conversation changes everything for me.

With all the patience I have,

Your Horse x
