The Story Behind EquiMotion
The conversation changes everything
EquiMotion doesn't exist to teach riders how to ride, we exist to help horses and riders understand each other better.
A different conversation creates a different partnership.
Â
EquiMotion was created by Sarah Davenport in 2017 from one simple realisation — many of the challenges we see in ridden horses are not only about the horse. They are part of the conversation between horse, rider, body, nervous system, tack, training, and trust.
Â
Over years of working with riders and their horses, the same pattern appeared again and again. Kind, committed riders were often communicating in ways they couldn’t yet feel — through old injuries, tension, asymmetry, protection patterns, fear, or habitual movement.
Â
The horse would adapt, compensate, and keep trying to understand, until the conversation between horse and rider became lost beneath tension, habit, and compensation.

EquiMotion was created to change that.
Â
While HorseFirst Biomechanics™ sits at the heart of EquiMotion, true understanding comes from looking at the complete horse-and-rider partnership. Through rider assessment, horse movement observation, saddle and bitting insight, and a welfare-led approach to performance, EquiMotion helps uncover what is really influencing comfort, communication, confidence, and way of going.

Everything EquiMotion does is guided by one simple purpose:

To improve equine welfare by helping horses and riders understand each other better.
A lifetime of asking better questions.
I don’t teach this work from theory alone, I teach it from lived experience.
I know what it feels like when your body won’t do what your mind is asking of it. I understand pain, protection, old injuries, fear of flare-ups, and the way confidence can quietly disappear when getting back in the saddle no longer feels safe in your own body.

Alongside that lived understanding, my work is grounded in extensive professional training across rider biomechanics, rehabilitation, equine therapy, movement, neurology, and horsemanship.

Over the years, I have travelled throughout the UK, Europe, and the United States to learn from educators who challenge conventional thinking about how bodies move, adapt, protect, and perform.

But the most important thing all of this has taught me is not to chase symptoms.

It has taught me to ask better questions.

To look beyond what is happening on the surface and understand the deeper conversation between the rider, the horse, the body, the nervous system, and the partnership between them.

"Thankyou for carrying us, teaching us, forgiving us and showing us the way.Â

You ask for so little and yet you give us so much. I promise to keep learning, to keep listening, and to always try to be a better partner for you."
